drill a hole the size of the post in a piece of wood. soak the wood in water. heat up some lead till it gets very viscous. pour it from the can into the hole on the battery post until it's full. the soaked wood should help disappate heat, and cool and hot lead and prevent it from melting the battery case. let it cool. then drill and tap it. and next time, only tighten to the 12-14 pound recommended. But make sure it is tight, I had a customer come in yesterday whose ring terminals weren't tightly bolted into a Kinetic HC1400. There was enough heat buildup that it actually melted the post and a big hole in the battery. I was totally amazed. It wasn't our install or equipment, but he regularly buys stuff here. cuz he's rich, and has to have everything at full power all the time. It's a corvette with two 13w7's on a memphis 4kW. Then 12 6.5" component SETS on 4 Boston GT-24's. that's a lot of speakers in a vette.

Easy problem to fix... thread in a 2" long peice of all thread into the stripped terminal until you cant tighten it anymore (to the point the brass inserts starts slipping). Then, use it as a stud... place your ring terminal over the stud, then use a washer, then a lock washer, then a nut. Done...
FYI, the Powermaster 1000 batteries have a different brass insert than the newer D1000's. It is much harder to srip the terminal on a D1000 with this upgrade.
