I'm gettin mixed suggestions about this and this is my first time doin this so i figured the insane competitors over here can shed some light for me to give me the final concrete suggestion to do this right. [Smile]

Ok, here is what it consists of-
300a alt
HC1800 in front
5 HC600s in back.
Total amp fuse ratings- 490a, let's say 500A.

I need that hc1800 to help with the setup in the back so nothing will block it from being used for stereo purposes.

Ok, this is what i want to do-
1 have 1 3/0 stinger flat wire ran already to rear.
I need to order 2 more runs of cable for a total of 3 runs of cable from front battery to rear battery bank.
I don't want to order 2 more runs of stinger since it's over $5 a foot so i figure i'd go with knukoncepts kolossus cable for the other 2 runs.

Now, is this acceptable-
1/0 wire out of battery up front into 500A fuse holder, 1/0 wire into distro block. run all 3 runs from this block to another distro block in the back, 1/0 wire from this block into 500A fused block, 1/0 wire from this to battery bank.

IS this good?

Someone else suggested throw away distro idea and fuse each wire at both ends with 160A.
Problem is... 3/0 will draw more probably and i am not familiar with properly calculating requirements for fuses with different size wire runs.

[Eek!]

The "proper" way would be to fuse the runs at the front and rear as close to the batts as possible. The fuses are to protect the car from burning to the ground in case of a short in between the front and rear batts.

i've been talkin with someone else about this, they told me the current being ran through the power wire from batt up front to batts in the rear is charge current only... meaning i should only place fuse(s) based upon the rating of the alt or the rating of the maximum current the wire can handle.

They say that since there is a batt bank in the rear, most to all of the possible batt discharge will come from them and them only.

But if all batts are ran in parallel with batt up front, how would batt up front NOT be used?

That's confusing.

Kinetik even told me today not to use 5hc600s, hehe.

They told me to replace them with 3 HC1400s in the rear instead as that will give me longer reserve time.

It's like putting a 300A fuse on a 4ga wire. The wire could burn before the fuse does.

i understand that.

I got a new thing i'm gonna do, instead-

I'm gonne be running 2 runs of stinger Xpert 3/0 cable from front to rear.

I know these babies should be able to handle 350A easy.

So, if my alt is 300A, am i just suppose to fuse each cable at 150 per or 250 per based upon a 500a setup?

no you fuse each run at 300 amps or so but its really kinda pointless running 3/0 especialy since bigger fuses are tough to find

I don't think I've ever seen a fuse bigger than 400 amps. Anyone I know with a larger current draw than that doesn't even bother with fuses.
