the 6500 will do .25 ohm without a problem if you got the battery to feed it...but i've heard the 10K is alot more picky and will go into protect sooner

i need to know that as well, since my amps share the same board as the xxx 10k, ive seen my amp being abused @ .66 ohm, on only 2 batteries and it was pounding out the notes, so if anyone tests the xxx 10k @ .5 let me know

I know I'm a little late, but I though I could add a couple pieces of usefull information regarding the alternators.

There is really very little advantage to turning the alternator on and off with a switch. Both alternators will sense battery voltage and only field themselves enough to maintain the setpoint voltage in each of the alternator's regulators. Additionally, the alternators would share the load and actually last longer (less heat) if they both ran together all the time.

If you were to run an external regulator with adjustable voltage on one alternator say at 15.2 volts, with the other "stock" regulated alt. with a setpoint at 14.5 volts, as soon as the ext. regulated alternator got the system voltage up to 15.2 volts, the stock alt. would not produce any current, because system voltage is higher than it's 14.5 volt setpoint. (which would defeat the purpose of running two alts.)

I run 3 alternators on my truck, and they work flawlessly. If you are not using the extra current (batteries are charged and system is not playing) then you will not be wasting any more horsepower or gas milage. To summerize, (1) an alternator will turn itself off and on acording to demand without your help, and (2) make sure the setpoint is the same for all of your alternators.

If you have any other questions regarding batteries or alternators, I'd be glad to help in any way I can.

Matt

^Very informative, thank you. Once I get done with mostly everything Im going to be sitting down and really setting things straight with the alternators. I may also be upgrading the stock one in the future to a 160 amp or so...And have the 250 at around 15.2V and the smaller around the 14.5V mark to reinforce when necessary.

I really like the bigger alt set to higher voltage idea...I think I will be using that when I have the money and time (this summer most likely).

Thanks again.

BTW guys: Here's some pics of the 18 and the SoundStream in and rockin (on 4 ohms...but still, it gets pretty damn loud, almost have had people hit their heads on the windshield already...lmao). Def nowhere near finished but I had to get it in for now...enjoy
