Hello to all!! I'm in the processes of installing a new system in my 91 CRX. I want to do a dual alternator set up but I don't know how. Do they have to be of the same amps? How do you wire them to turn on? Can they be combined and used as 1? Any insite on how to go about doing this would be great. BTW I was looking at a Irragi alternator for the stock location. Can I get two of them and splice the harness to the stock alt to turn them both on? Or should I just get two 1 wire alts? Damn i'm lost!! [Big Grin]

you definately want to scrap the factory harness. One wire alts are the ticket. Otherwise your factory harness will cut the alt off between a certain rpm range.

So Jrobb, do you think Dominic would have brackets for a 96-00 Honda Civic since my man here is doing something on a Crx?? I have 2 alts just need brackets. Also where could I get a 1 wire alternator to fit a Honda at? How the heck would you do that. I do agree about the alt cutting off I hate when it does that. I have to turn my lights on to get it to come back on. I am interested in this conversation

Should i get the iraggi alt to replace the factory one and a 1 wire to run the system? I saw on here about cutting a wire on the factory harness to make it kick in all the time, i was thinking of doing this but putting a switch on it so i can turn it on and off at will. So i can run the amps for my mids and highs off the stock charging system (with replaced alt) and run extra batt and sub amp off secound alt right?

I'd like to know where you plan on putting two alternators on a crx. Maybe where the AC compressor is?

i dont think you would need 2 alts either, unless you want it to be a 16v dailey driver. one is plenty for mine.

well do u guys think an 180 amp alt would be fine for running one orion 2500d, and two 400 watt ppi art series amps? Soon i want to get a secound 2500d. 1 180 amp alt 2-3 batts would be plenty for all this?

I am super interested in this. I never thought about putting an alternator where the Ac compressor went. I haven't had a/c for years. Wonder how that could work. Guess would have to make custom brackets.

a second alt is unneccessary especially with the large size alts you can get these days. I would like to see how slow a CRX would be when it had to spin 2 180amp alts I am sure they would rob alot of power and the CRX ain't got any to spare its slow as it is lol

sure, a 300A alt could be cool, but at idle, two 180's is going to do way more current

Well, I'm mainly looking to keep the stock one and add a second one to my Civic for 16V daily.

Iraggi makes one for the rex. I got mine for 219.00 shipped. (180 Amp) Shipping takes a long time but its worth it. He can make up to 350 amp alts for this car. He told me....(300 amp $419 350 amp $499)

We can do a 300 amp large case conversion for Honda for $499, but the belt will slip if you ever put 300 amps worth of load on it.

We don't use the small honda case either, we custom machine a large case alternator so that it fits in the stock brackets. We also include an adapter harness so that it plugs into your stock harness, it makes for a clean installation. That way, you can keep your load sensing idle adjustment- it's a really cool Honda feature that increases your idle RPM when it senses a high load on the alternator.

yup, it's www.mechman.com .

We can do up to a 300 amp for a 91 civic, but belt slip becomes an issue. If you don't mind belt slip, or if you can add a backside idler, we can do a 300 amp large case that bolts right into the stock brackets.

The Comp 300 does 100 amps at idle
The StreetBeater 250 does 150 amps at idle
The ProPower 200 does 130 amps at idle.

We normally do the ProPower on the Hondas because that little 4-rib belt doesn't like to grip much beyond 200 amps.
