Last night my 135A alternator died in my 99 Grand Marquis (it was only 2 years old). It's my daily driver and I need to replace that alternator as soon as possible. I was only running a Sundown Audio SAX-100.4 when it died, but my last system consisted of 2 Kicker 06ZX400.1's and 1 Kicker 06ZX350.2. I have the big three done with 1/0 and I have just one battery, a group 65 Duralast Gold Battery. I plan to hookup my Sundown Audio SAE-1000D in addition to the 100.4 when my new alternator is installed.

I emailed Excessive Amperage, Iraggi Alternators, Ohio Generator High Amp Alternators, and High Output Alternator.

What do you think the minimum alternator I need to buy is?
Is the amps at idle the most important thing?
What kind of voltage will I get with a H/O alt?
How many amps does my car need without the stereo?
How many amps do you think my 135A alternator put out at idle?

205 at idle? Or just 205?

Nate at Excessive Amperage quoted me back in August before I needed an alternator...

200 amp - 110 @ idle - $320 shipped
250 amp - 130 @ idle - $405 shipped
300 amp - 150 @ idle - $495 shipped

Well Excessive Amperage's prices went up $15, but they were still much lower than Ohio Generator's and High Output Alternator's prices. I'm still waiting on Iraggi Alternators.

My car idles at 600-800 rpms (I don't have a tach. but people say the civilian panthers idle at 600 and the interceptors at 800). My amps will pull between 101-116 amps (1400-1600 watts/ 13.8 volts). Is a 250 amp (130 at idle) alternator enough to run everything in my car at idle and still crank my system, or would I be better off with a 300 amp (150 at idle)?

the 300A making more power at idle than the 250? that actually seems off to me. Must be plenty of resistance.
I like nate, nice guy. Unfortunately, I had several alternators die in a short time. Some rebuilt several times with the wrong regulator and a weak stator.
Not to discourage you from him. Several others are still going strong.

PM = Powermaster... 800-862-RACE opt. 7 The 200A is the one you need to ask for.
