Well, I FINALLY got to install my new alternator, but I'm having problems. For some reason the alt doesn't start charging until I first rev my car over 2500 RPM.
I can start my car and let it idle -- no charge. Once I rev it, the alt starts charging, and will continue to charge at idle.
Has anyone experienced anything like this? Is it the alternator? Something with my car/regulator? By the way, since replacing the alternator the battery (charging) light stays on even after the alt kicks in.
Info: I ran 4ga from the alt to the battery. 4ga from alt case to ground. Kept original wiring as well. Nothing else was changed for the alternator swap.
This is in a 1999 Chrysler Sebring. Any help is appreciated!

where does your car idle at? My car idles at like 800 rpm maybe. It does not charge until over 2000 rpm

my car idles right around 800. I can start my car then rev it up to 1500 or so... still no charge. Once I hit 2500 RPM the alt starts charging. It will then continue to charge even at idle.

That is called the cut-in rpm, and most alts will do that to some degree.

Right.... but is it the alt that does that (cut-in rpm), or is that determined by my ECM? I think I remember somewhere that my ECM actually regulates voltage, etc. It was working fine with the original alternator. What could be different here? A 2500RPM cut-in is pretty high....

No Go TeamSubGoPoof. The only time it starts to charge is if I first rev it past 2500RPM. From that point forward the voltage reads 13+ even at idle.
Still experiencing your problem kenny7231?
I've been busy, but will try a couple of things this weekend, hopefully. Will report back my findings.

When I start my truck it will be right at 14.2. Then while driving it will stay in the 13.6-8 range with the stereo on. But once I stop the voltage will go down to 12.2-12.4 even with the stereo off. Strange.

Mine charges at 14.6 when i turn my car on and doesn't change on matter where my rpms are.
Kenny are you talking about your battery light in your car. If so it has to do with the fact that you have a different alternator on your car. I've had 3 different hi output alts on my car and the only time by battery light doesn't come on is when i have my factory on my car.

Ok..I don't have an Iraggi, but one day I want to get one. Anyway I have a high output alt as well on my Honda Civic..160amp..When I crank my car my voltage is at 14.4 it stays there for a while then all of a sudden it drops down to about 12.2 or 12.3..I can drive around like this no problem..If I want it to go back to the 14.'s all I do is either turn my lights on or my blower fan..I don't know if this is a funtion of the alt but it kinda makes since..I f it stays at full charge all the time it would burn up right?? Get to hot?? I don't have my amp in my car right now or speakers , but when I did that is what I had to do..Don't know if my amp wasn't pulling enough amps to keep it in the charging zone..It is rarely that I get over 2500 rpms in my civic..Cause it smokes like a chimney!
