how do u hook up an extra battery to your sytem..i was told that u just hook the amps power wire up to that than hook the amp up like normal...is that all u have to do to the battery?(hook the amps power wire up)or do u have to connect it to the original(stock)battery too?and i was wonderin if u could just put a extra battery in so u dont have to use your stock battery for your system

I was thinking of adding a battery myself. I'm pretty sure of how to hook one up, but I'll let someone correct me if I'm not.

1) Run a large power wire (4ga or better) from the + on the front battery to the + on the rear (auxillary) battery.

2) Run a ground from the rear battery to the frame. I believe I heard Moneybag or DQ say the ground should be on the same side of the car (left or right) as the ground on the front battery (yes, ground the front battery).

3) Run the power wire from the + on the rear battery to your amp(s). When you ground your amps, I heard you can either ground them to the frame, or directly to the - terminal on the rear battery...which makes sense to me.

If I said anything wrong someone please correct me.

Yea, I got a question too. Lets say I have enough room under the hood for two batteries, can I just put em next to each other and wire em in parallel, while just grounding out the 2nd battery to the frame? Thanks. ;p

I dont know the right way either but i have seen with cars and electric jacks that they are wired in parallel. Positive or org. bat. wired to negative, but not sure maybe someone could clear the clouds for us all.

Ground both batteries to the frame, I don't think it matters what side of the car you ground to as long as you use a big enough ground wire. Use a solenoid between the front and rear battery just in case so you don't strand yourself. Connect your amps to the + of the second battery, through a distribution block. Don't forget to place a fuse within a foot of each battery downstream.

I was wondering this also. So ok let me get this right you run a + wire from the front bat to the back bat on the +, that way the back will stay charged, but also hook up a bat guard on the front bat so it wont run dead when the car is off because the back is draining it with the system going, and then ground the back bat to the same side of the frame of the car as in the front. And then run your amps off of the back and then if it goes dead just start the car, and it will charge back up...is this right?

And one big @ss box!

Yup, I think that's it. Maybe one of the experienced people can confirm, but that's what I've learned.

i'm sorry, but has anyone ever heard the phrase "battery isolator" before.. you should have 1 if your trying to charge 2 seperate power sources (batteries) at the same time from the alternator...

That's what the solenoid is.
