I have never owned a deep cycle but plan on using an AGM sealed battery.

Well, i understand that normally the float voltages on these batteries are above 13v.

Well, i have a question about getting it there, hehe

I have 1 run of 0 gauge wire approx 17ft long.
The voltage in my trunk at idle reads between 13.6 - 14v.

So, when i'm drivin listen to the stereo, how will my Alternator charge the back battery(s) properly? I was always under the assumption that these type of batteries wanted at LEAST 14.4v to charge efficiently.

Because of voltage loss, how do You guys properly charge your batts from ur alts with long wire like my situation?

With that length you can get by. But depending on your system run more wire. Most charge trickle charge their batterys defore a competition. 13.6 to 14v is normal.

yea but that is for lead acid, right?

Deep cycles are around 13.5.

My G31 Yellow top rests around 13.3. The best advice you could get is get an Alt that can suport charging 2 or more batteries. If voltage is a problem then you should get your Alt set to charge at a higher voltage. I charge 3 and sometimes 4 G31 Yellow tops in my car off a single 300 amp Alt with no problems.

At front, my front battery gets 14.4v on idle and with a 120A current draw, At Idle, the front battery reads around 13.8v while the trunk dips down to about 12.6v

I know i am going to get a battery isolator, a non-voltage loss one, to isolate the batteries but i was always under the impression that the voltage going to the batteries being charged has to be greater than the float voltage or it will never charge all the way.

I do not know what type of batteries i want to use exactly yet.

I got a 200A alt right now. A die hard battery up front(Lead Acid), and prob looking at no more than 200aH worth of batts in the rear.

I never know how much aH is required for music so i just look at my wattage level, let's say 2,000w and say i need 200aH worth to be able to play it for a full hour w\o use of an alt if there were ever major power draws.

B_R- What is your voltage reading up front on ur main battery?
as stated earlier, mine is 14.4v but in back it is 13.6-14.0 and on a very hard hit, up front is around 13.8 on idle and rear drops down to no lower than 12.6v.
