Ok so I know that caps cause additional load when dischaged for burps etc. This quesitons has to do with a daily app. however. Has anyone venutured to try one out yet? Anvantages/dis etc. I know they will help to regulate voltages when playing actual music so I figured I would just throw the question out there.

Also I noticed that it seems like more and more companies are building large caps even pyle has a 80 farad and lanzar with the 100, along with the RF/lightning unit. Anyone know who is the build house for most of these larger caps.

You know, this is like one of the biggest, baddest debate subjects out there for car audio.

I have thought to myself what exactly i would use caps for or how they would benefit me and i can only come up with for comps used for quick burps. I can't really see how they are helpful for daily driving unless you just have at or above the required amperage of alternators.

I have never owned these astronomical Farad banks but i have owned a 2F cap before. My 0.6 voltage loss from front to rear was made up with using this cap, at idle, it was at 14.4v. However, during play, voltage dipped down to 10.2! Took caps off and the voltage dip was a lot less, now my lowest point was about 12.2 so i pretty much gained 2v just by not using them.

I don't really understand the "time" or the right application i guess to use these for but for how much they cost to guess if they will work for a certain application, i choose never to use them again.

the two 40f RF caps i had in my civic, and in the tahoe for a period of time worked great for what i was doing with them. I dont know what the problem is with ^^^^^^his stuff but with 3500 watts i had very little voltage drop at all and zero headlight dim or blink. I was doing 146/147 @ 30hz (new TL) in the tahoe as well as the honda at the time. I would say if your alt is enough for your system it may help the "blink" and slow down the quick "ups and downs" in your voltage, in other words stabalize it some. You probably wont get any SPL out of it or any magic SQ but i personally experienced a smoother electrical system when i used mine. I guess it all depends on what your goals are, and what system you already have....what im running right now would chew up the 80f and spit it out so it probably wouldnt help much. Besides, with 7 batterys and dual 300amp alts i get no dimming, blinking, any of that on the hardest hitting, lowest notes....if i were to toss a few thousand watts into a more tame vehicle like the wifes and she had major annoying blinking/dimming i would for sure toss a huge RF cap in (since i already have them). Ive never found the little 1f, or even 5f caps to help much, seems like you need overkill on the farads to even notice a positive difference in your electrical.

The loss in spl would be due to the draw these cause when discharged and then the cycles of charging the cap so lower voltages etc. I guess I have had a very weird experience with caps in a daily compared to you guys. In my dak with an LP 3.2 it was a completely pointless addition, but in a 96 GTP there was actually a true change in output, like actually sounded louder. Although that car has the worst electrical setup I have ever dealt with.

As far as the actual install this question goes along with it's in the sig. I doubt I'll buy any of these caps because I have 4 batts on the way plus one under the hood and maybe eventually 6 total. That and the sub setup will be completely split from stock electrical so no worries about dimming well unless I load the heck out of my MS1000 that’s driving the front stage (this will be the only thing hooked to the batt in front. Along with that 4/0 to the battery bang and 1/0 or bigger to the amps.

Meade's application would be the only real reason for them, but I may eventually buy a cheap one to play with and see what it does.

Any other points about positive or negative impacts would be great [Smile]

which makes it good for music but not so good for SPL using a test tone.....
