I need to know if this thing does what I think it can do, and if not, can somebody tell me how to do this-

http://www.lightningaudio.com/2004/products/product.asp?prodID=573

This is what I want-

I want a setup to where the amperage draw from amps exceed alt(s) output then wants to dip into the batteries. Now, i know if this is done all the time, it will kill the alt(s). Now, i will have 1 or 2 alts but might still not be enough. What i want is for this to occur-

Extra batteries that are hooked up to amps, the amps get the power strictly and ONLY from the batteries with the car ON and the ONLY thing the alt is doing is charging up the batteries. Basically, the alt(s) never see an exceeded, high demand for ultra current but instead just charges batteries according to rpm levels.

I was thinking this device from LA may do it if you read the description but the problem is, I had talked to them about this a while back(when i was completely illiterate with technical aspects of car audio) and they said that the batteries will see 14.4v with this device, all batteries. So, i am understanding that if amps also seen 14.4 then the power would be fed from the alt first rather than the batteries?

See what i am gettin at? So, anybody know? hehe

How much current draw are you talking about?

I have done 9000 watt daily driver systems with two alternators and dont have any problems.

One thing you may want to look into is charging your batteries once a week or so to make sure they are fully charged.

well, let's say here real soon, i got a 200A alt and i'll put 1 extra battery in the back.

Amp will draw at full tilt 200A but car draws 50A, so that's 250. In this senario what do you think?

And also, later on, i will order another amp that pulls 200A and am wondering if this regulator can do it or if i need another alt?

Your still going to kill the alternator when you rely on it to charge the batteries.

The system wont be the problem

so... is there a way to have an alt setup to not power equipment but just charge?

I do not really understand how it would kill the alt if the only thing it did was charge.

Reason i do not understand is supposedly, when main battery is fully charged, all AUX batteries would start to get charged. Well the regulator supports up to 200A so the alt should only see the regulator wanting the power and not the batteries. Then the regulator dispersing the power to the batteries. I know this may be wrong or it may not be but even regardless if there were no power issue at all-

If i had 1 200a alt and lets say 10 Group 31 batteries 80% discharged, all of them, that would be like saying the alt would die trying to charge them in this state all the time. I wouldnt understand that either.
It's not that i dont believe you, i need to understand what you are telling me.

Thanks.
