when dom first shipped me my alt, it had the wrong size (6 groove) instead of 7 groove pulley. When he shipped me the 7 groove pulley, it was a larger diameter pulley than the 6 groove was and now when i'm idling and have my lights/fogs, a/c and stereo on (not bumping) just on my voltage dips down to around 13.3 when i begin driving and get the rpms from 500 back to over 800-1000 the voltage pops right back up to 14.4 like a champ.

Is there anything I should be worried about, will this hurt the alternator? Is there a smaller diameter 7 groove pulley or are they all like this? I have a yellowtop, and the 240 amp version of his alternator.

The larger your alt pulley is....the slower it will spin. If your car idles at 500 rpm and you have all your accessories on, your doing pretty good with that 7 groove pulley. Your alt is spinning approximately 900 rpm slower than what is considered standard for idle rpm.
If your car is an automatic you will really notice a difference from drive and park with the car idling. Your at the point where ANY increase in rpm will make a huge difference in how much current an alternator will do.

If it were me, I would put the smaller 6 groove pulley back on and use the 6 groove belt that worked before. You will actually make the regulator not have to work as hard and it will last longer when you put the smaller pulley on.

hmm well its not that big of a deal to me, i like the added security of knowing that i'm running the same number of grooves that all the other pulleys in my car run, although the 6 did work Perfect, and i still have it around in my toolbox.

I dont see any dimming so if i notice that then I will swap the pulleys out again. The 6 groove is probably small enough where i could run an underdrive crank pulley and still be fine regarding voltage.
