I have some electrical concerns that would like to be addressed prior to installing the system in a 2002 Dodge Diesel with dual batteries and 136 amp heavy duty alternator. I am not knowledgeable when it comes to current so please bear with me.

(2) Amplifiers

A. 1 Ohm Power 1100X1
THD 4 ohm 0.75%
Frequency Response +/- 1 dB 10Hz-650Hz

B. RMS Power 2 ohm (Watts) 115 x 4
THD 4 ohm 0.50%
Frequency Response +/- 1 dB 10Hz-650Hz

Questions:
1. Is there a need to replace the batteries with yellow top or equivalent?
2. Is there a need for use of a single or multiple capacitor(s)?
3. Will the electrical system fluctuate without either of above listed items?
4. Is there a need for a bigger alternator? Maybe respooling current alternator?

i imagine you have pretty large batteries in that truck so you should be fine with what you have.

however, it wouldn't hurt to upgrade your electrical system especially if you play it loud very often.

are you planning on competing at all? If not try it with what you got and see how it goes. I've installed similar powered systems in regular full size trucks with only a single batt and prob similar sized alt and they seem to be fine (none coming back with problems). Some did have a yellow-top, but not all.

if your alternator fails you can either rewind the one you have or go with a larger one (200A would be great...250A would be better if you can afford it). maybe it's just paranoia, but i would prefer an alt designed for a certain current that a souped up one. Alts usually can't be rewound a lot more than what they're originally built at...and be reliable or so i hear.

and i would avoid caps, especially if you listen to bass-heavy music. They're more of a band-aid than a real solution...could put that $ towards a new alternator.

A) alternator is THE ticket. Can't make power without power...and you gotta keep your two batts charged as well as power the stereo. pretty large chore considering stock alts aren't designed with much leeway for aftermarket accessories, much less those that can pull current over 60A.

B) batteries would be my 2nd choice (1st if money is tight)

C) cap only as a last resort, and even then i wouldn't [Big Grin]
