I don't want to give the make/model away, but will these batts work fine for every day driving??? Someone told me that they do not like to be charged for long periods of time. Can anyone help me out here???

If they were made for a boat they are made to be drained to near dead and recharged. Deep cycle bats are not made to be used as the lone power source. Most boats have a standard bat for cranking. I would say that they work as well as any deep cycle bat in a car. See if their specs are close to a yellow top. I was told not to use a yellow top alone for daily so I bought a red top. Now I use the exide black tops.

It dont matter. Deep cycle batteries work for starting. the Marine I think Actualy work better then the yellow tops because of a diffrent internal resistance. Come on Iggster you have be around here for ever!
BTW - Iggy Thanks for the Poems you put on the Off topic. I used one the other day!

I think the deepcycle battey can' t take the quick and high rate of a charge put out by a cars charging system may hurt it.

i know that some marine batts are kinda hybrids...at least that's what it said on one of my grandfather's marine batts "deep cycle/starting batter".
friend of mine had 8 of the blue tops from optima powering 8 bd1500's but he wasn't using them to start his truck. they did do fine for stereo use tho

I would have to agree with not using a deep cycle battery for everyday use. I myself used a optima yellow deep cycle battery my main starting and stereo battery, big mistake. My optima yellow bit the big one and died on me, went all the way down to 10.5 and I had to recharge it. The next day I went back to AutoZone and exchanged it for a red top, and it has not failed me yet!!! I was pretty pissed off about that yellow top, but the use of an yellow top for starting a car and stereo is not good unless you drain the battery completely and then recharge it through a trickle charger.

The OPTIMA Yellow Top™ Deep Cycle Battery should be used in the following cases:
Starting applications in high-accessory vehicles/High Cycling Applications. Vehicles with computers, extra radios, electronic components, lights, winches, etc. will create excessive amperage drain that can damage a starting battery. Recommend the OPTIMA Yellow Top to provide fast recharging and longer life due to its' ability to cycle over 300 times.
Starting applications with low amperage draws. If your customer has a vehicle that sits unused for long periods of time, either OPTIMA will provide longer life due to reduced corrosion and sulfation. However, if the vehicle has an alarm, computer, or other low amperage drain, the Yellow Top will guard against deep cycling damage that can occur over long periods of time.
the starting battery is ment for just that - Starting. The yellow top is meant to start your car and give power to all the accessories. you dont have to fully discharge a deep cycle every time you use it. go to the Stinger web site they give you life charts for the amount you discharge as you see the more you "fully discharge" the less life it will have. If your going to float it then yea its a long time with low current. or you can put 60 amps in to the battery for less the 2 hours and it will work just fine. I think you must have goten a Bad Optima. I have used two yellow tops in my thunder bird for the past 1.5 years and have no problems I still get the nice 14.4 volts out of them.

i gotta disagree w/ya on this one. At least as far as the yellow top. Your not supposed to drain a yellow top all the way. Maybe the optima blue-top, but not the yellow. Yellow is for everyday starting, and accessorys like stereos, winches etc. The red is a starting only (and mild accessorys). The reds work great im sure, but not really designed for the demands of some of these hardcore systems that are out there. Blue is for boats etc where you WOULD drain it all the way. Like Focus said, you probably had a bad battery or something.

I had a yellow top in my car 2 years ago, worked just fine.
Just wanted to make sure Marine batteries were no different
I like this battery, works very well.
