I have a battery 1 battery2 switch its my main power for my boat can i connect a amplifier to that switch or do i need to go directly to the battery. The switch is rated at 230 amps the amplifer is 200watt 12amp draw. Does anybody here use any kind of switch or do they only go directly to the battery.

here's what i would suggest to do since it would involve switching ALOT less current (depending on volume heh)
on the amp power connections you have ground, B+ (12V constant...straight to the batt. your power wire), and remote
buy a small switch (1A is plenty) from radio shack or where ever and wire inline with the remote wire. This wire goes from the radio to the amp to tell it that the system is on and to turn on. The current here is usually under 700mA or so and current draw does not increase when volume is increased.
this way you're not messing with the power wire that's connected to the battery which might short out or something.
