it would jump up to 24 volts.

Any run of wire that goes from the front of the car to batteries in the back needs to be fused at both ends.

You need to hook +to+ on all bats and -to- on the back two bats and ground the last bat and the 1st bat. Make sure that you have two fuses between the 1st and 2nd bat. 1 just after the 1st and 1 just before the 2nd. To mess up and get a 24volt load you would run +to- but that will suck!
