For starting purposes? I will most likely be replacing my battery this spring and i am starting to research them. I know that the red top is for starting but i see people on here using the yellow top quite often. I know the yellow top is deep cell but i am not familiar with it. Can someone please clarify this for me...thanks

I have a red top and it has helped since we really had some cold winters up here...
I really dont think u could go wrong with either.. But the red puts out more cca... (Cold crankin amps) then the yellow.. But the yellow is a deep cycle and has a longer reserve capacity...
Blue = 800cca Reserve Capacity BCI 104 mins Red = 800cca Reserve Capacity BCI 104 mins Yellow = 650cca Reserve Capacity BCI 120 mins
Overall.. I would say go with the red unless u play ur system with the car off..

deep cycle= steady voltage low amperage red top= unsteady voltage high amperage. the yellow tops can take abuse a lot better than the red tops they can be drained and brought back to life many times, the red tops can't be fully depleated half as many times as the yellow tops. the red tops if you have a lot of them or enough so that you don't drop voltage while burping would be a better choice if you don't plan on getting that many than the yellow top would be a no brainer.

reds have a quicker discharge and recharge rate so for spl red, heck red is even sold at auto zones now i think for one of the red ones for like 110 so it's even cheaper and if michael SPL2K likes them well that should tell you something

but if deathmatch is your kind of thing.. DO NOT use red tops..

Um....wrong ...check out this link http://www.optimabatteries.com/products/pdf/D31A.pdf 900cca reserve capacity BCI 155 mins. this yellow top has the most cca. But its a diffrent case. But you just said yellow top...

its simple, if you're gonna drain the battery then get the yellow but if not then get the red. i need an extra battery and am getting the red. why? because its cheaper and i have no plans of playing my system with the car off long and loud enough to drain the battery. if the system is on then so is the car, thats just me
