i first learned from a well known competitor that the SVR 100's die within about 8 months of use. I then heard from others that all SVR batteries(I was considering the svr80s) are like this. True?

I've been using an SVR 80-12 as my primary starting battery for over a year now without a single problem.

This and other posts have answered my question, screw SVR. I'm not taking the risk of wasting my hard earned money for my starter battery to crap out . But, what would ya'll suggest between these two: Optima Yellow Top or Stinger SP800? Thanks!

most all high end after market batterys only offer one year warranty or less. remember what you are using it for,a battery has a limit on how many times it can be fully discharged some more that others. if you compete you should change your battery out after one season.

SVR has more power than optima, but dont last as long. optimas last a long time (just dont deep cycle red tops and they last for years)

I would highly recommend the stinger SP800, they have a life span of about 5+ years. So expect to get around 3-4 years of full time work out of them, as long as you take care of them..
The stingers will last if you take card of them, this meanst that if you are pushing them to the max, then you will need to put a charger on them once in a while to get them fully charged. They say that fully charged is 13.83, but after charging mine, they rest, yes rest at 14.1, and this is after running the car up and down the street, shutting off the car and them metering the batts.
While I do run the sp800, I also run an sp1700 in the trunk, and cannot tell you if I have ever run the sp800 to it's limit. I can tell you that the install of the sp800 under my hyundai hood was uneventfull, took about 20 minutes, and That's really about it. I can tell you that if you run a sp800 under the hood, and a sp1700, you will have current out the wazoo, and need not worry about a thing. (My amp draws 400 amps an full tilt, and My headlights barely, just barely dim, with the factory set up, and another amp, (ms2125) the headlights would go almost completely off.
so stock battery + ms2125 (60 amp draw) = major dim
stinger batts + ms1000 (200 per side) = very light if noticable dimming.
Hmmmmm
