Yeah...nathan makes very good alts and his prices are great. He'll have a couple of vehicles at SBN with the 700 amp alts.

$329 shipped is not bad. He's supposed to have some of those 700 amp alts in vehicles at SBN next week...

The 700 amp alt is going to be $2900.00. Yes the decimal is in the right place.

I talked to him on the phone and thats the price he told me they were going to be.

ouch. not bad though thinking about it for what it is. a ohio gen 300 amp is around 1200 I think. I mean and it is only one alt. so it is nice when you have 200,000 to spend on a world finals vehicle. I mean SS where you can only have two alts. Would you rather have two 300amps or two 700 amps? 600 amps total or 1400amps? lol I mean if you are that big into it is definately worth it. Just curious, what rpm does is alternators do their regulated. Like the 200 amp? what rpm does it do the 200 at??? and how much does it do at idle?

That was me. [Smile] Actually they are 5.25's
I decided to just a few amps to be in a small class before everything is changed for next year. I ended up running the amps way too hard and blew them all up.

yeah, sounds like the testing procedures are messed up a little. how is he burping an alt? i can see burping an amp, but how is that testing the alt since it is CONNECTED TO BATTERIES ALSO. hmmmmmmmmm. i would have to see it on actual test equipment.

C'mon...they didn't burp the alt...you know what I mean...he said the voltage maintained 13.8X volts when they did a full power burp of the system and they measured 720 amps of output from the alt...

If I'm not explaining it right, just give the guy a call and he'll tell you how they tested it...

like i said, thats not how you test the alt. by doing it that way you are getting pull readings from the batteries also.

Well since I didn't build the alts and I wasn't the one who tested the alts, I'm not gonna sit here and debate anyone about it...for anyone who needs to know how they tested it and got that figure they can just call the guy...I was merely stating what the guy told me and that was that they got 720 amps out of the alternator...

maybe by burp he meant full power on a bench tester? also.. it is very possible and easy to meaure the current coming out of an alternator while it is hooked up to batteries.. (clamp on amp meter)

I am curiuos how big the case is on these 700 amp alts. If anyone claims to get more than 200 amps out of a "regular" size stock type case, take a big step back and ponder the truthfullness of such claims. If the 700 amp alts are like a Electrodyne, then I might believe the claim. The Electrodyne is a huge double length alt that looks like 2 big case Leece Nevilles back to back. I know I just threw some of the "I have a rebuilt stock case alt on my Civic that does 250 amps" crowd a big curve.

From what he told me...he can do them in a large case GM or Ford...

You can definitely do the large case GM or Ford alts up to 400 amps pretty easily but 780 is quite a bit more..

Just because one person cant accomplish something, doesnt mean someone else cant either..
Im not going to say the 700 amps cant be done, but its a hell of a number. I have a project that the goal was 500 amps...that seems kinda small when you compare......But if I say it does 500 amps.....you can bet it does. [Smile] I will have to see when the project is complete.
