Just put back on my gm130cs supposedly rebuilt to 180amp hot 160cold. Jammed hard for about 10 minutes and I smelled a melting/burning smell in the car. I check around the car and its the alt that smelled and was HOT as HE!!.

Whats up with that? Im guessing it shortend the life and will go any day. Or not?

For amp Im running a PG TI 600.2 and PG TI 800.1. If going by the birth sheets max amp draw from both is around 190amps.

Yea, I wouldn't think it will last too long if its getting really hot. [Cool] Who rebuilt it for you and is there a warranty?

When an alt runs that hot...its usually because.....
1. Excessive load for extended period of time.
2. Poor design of internals.
3. May have oil or some other residue on it.
4. Poor design of internals. Did I say that one already. [Smile]
5. It has been rewound with inadequate parts.
6. Poor design.
7. Power wire may be too small for the amount of current that is flowing out of the alt.

hmmmmmmmmm, you should probably save up some money and get one of thoe realiable and powerful Iraggi Alternators. For half the price of most alts out there, you definately cant go wrong since the build quality is twice as good!!

****EDIT****
some prices may vary, so please dont think that all his alts are half the price of all other peoples alts. i guarantee they are cheaper and better than a major HO alt maker out there.

The big town of Dickinson.

Also had a friend check the Alt out and it was doing 174amps with everything on and stereo full tilt. He checked the draw of my PG TI and the TI800.1 was drawing around 135 amps at peak. But the TI600 only showed around 30mps.

I dont know much about how the meter he had works but you dont actually conect it to the metal terminals of the wire just clamp it around the positive wire it self your testing. It was a Fluke something meter???

yep, its just a "clamp on" meter.... measures the current going thru a wire or cable
