A couple weeks ago you experts suggested I up my alternator wire to 4 guage from the smaller factory wiring. I have a couple of questions. First, the factory alt wire has what looks like a plastic looking sleeve on it near the battery terminal end. It looks like its part of the wire actually, it's just a little bigger and about 1" long and at it is where the wire color changes from red to black. Is this just a splice? or is it a fuseable link? The sleeve looking thing looks permanent like its not removable at all, like its molded on the wire. Second- can i just run a new 4 guage and remove the factory wire because it's a GM with one of those double stacked battery terminals. It would be easier for me to reconfigure the wiring and remove the factory alt. wire and not use it at all. I guess I need to know if that black sleeve like thing is just a splice or if its a fuseable link and can i just remove it either way?

The end piece on the alt wire is actually a cover to protect the connection at the alt. You should leave the stock wire in and attach an additional 4ga wire there and route it to the battery.
You can replace the terminal in the connector at the battery which a terminal which allows additional connects, ie, GM side terminal replacement.
