you are best off getting a bank of 2 volt cells. have whatever voltage you want then. Remember the float voltage on 16volts is going to be more like 17.4 volts, so you will need to charge at 18-18.5 volts.

I have used the "Exide" #3600 6v and #4800 8v together in series/parallel (multiple 14v setups) for many systems. I have been very pleased with this setup.
Be careful when running a 16v battery, due to the 18.5v-19v charging required. Some amps can not handle this.
