I was recently asked with the question of, could you hook up a 12 volt optima yellow top to a set of 14 volt batteries? Iknow that the 12 volt is lower but will it pose any problems with the 14 volt batteries?

i am not positive on this because i have never done it, but i would assume that it would hurt them. it may not ruin them, but it will probably drain those 14 volt batteries, thats just my guess... by the way, where did you find 14 volt batteries?? ive seen 16, never 14.
regardless, i wouldnt recomend it, i never ever recomend mixing battery brands or ages of batteries, even if they are the same brand and only a few weeks difference in age, if you want more than one battery, get them all at once and all the same brand, size, ect.

replace the 14 with optimas and then add the other optimas. i think you have a deisel which they have 14volts somethime and thay had no problem running the yellow tops in place of the others.

14 volt setups are usually created by a 8v and a 6v in series. I have a SPL car I built setup this way and we can turn the V up to over 17V in comp (if the amps would handle it). I am not sure if the 14V would hurt the optimas but if you tried to charge the 14's at anthing over 15 or so it definatly would. Optima's are very sensitive to overcharing and are ruined very easily like this.
