Two batteries will do more to keep your current down than up. But with two batteries the voltage drop below 12.5v will be less than with one. If you stick with one battery your system will stay at 14.4v longer before dropping down. Get a bigger alt and keep your stock battery, unless you plan on running your system with the car off.

yup, thats true for the most part. however, the difference between running one battery and two wont really be measureable, especially with todays high quality efficient batteries, such as optimas. but yes, its true. now if your current draw continously overpowers your alternator, then thats a different story....
