A 1000 watt amp on nearly any stock electrical system will produce dimming lights. It also depends on what volume you listen to your stereo at. As far as "hurting" anything though, you should be ok, people do what you just described every single day, with fairly good results.

I have had a CFA 1000D in one car and no dimming of the lights and I put 2 in a 2000 Sunfire and no dimming of the lights, so I guess it depends on the car. Now I have a Jeep Cherokee and a D2, now my lights dim I also had a 1farad cap in the first car and 2 in the second and none right now, I'm not sure if this helped but I think it did.

dimming lights???? what is that??? id call it blacking out of lights. my car instantlyu drops to 12V if I have the lights on when blasting music and if i play short burps about 5 times in one night and repaeted this for 4 more times id need a totally new battery!!!!

im only running 1400 watts but its all in the car. (89 ford probe) 60 amp alt or <

I think im gonna find a mazda in the junk yard and rip out its alt and show it in my car. that should help.

but as for ur problem it will depend on the car and shouldnt be a big deal.

you have a pretty small car so you're gonna have a relatively small alternator as well. any 1000 watt class d amp will put a strain on the alt. i got a durango with a pretty beefy stock alt and i have a jbl 1200 and 180.2 and i got some dimming lights.
my advice, install the amps first and see how bad it is. if you have just a little dimming then a cap would help but if you got crazy voltage drops and your lights dim horribly then your best bet would be to invest in a bigger alt. you have a ford so they make really big alts for them at cheap prices.
alterstart@aol.com is the email of a well respected guy that has pretty good prices, he has alot of auctions over on ebay.

FINALLY IN!!! but too damn lazy to clean up the install

well the FORD ZX2 has a 90 amp alt stock, and i have been told b owners that they have 1000 watt amps along with a small a/b amp with barely any problems.

oh and how much would a new alt cost me, say something that could hold a 1000 watt amp and a smaller amp and how much for isntalling it?

And like you said a cap would stop some small dimming? i plan on just putting it in and then seeing.
