I have a stock 90A Bosch alt in my VW GTi -99. I´ll be adding a regulator to get more voltage out of it. I´m also thinking of adding a larger cable from the alt to my battery as well. Today the stock wire is about 3 feet of what looks like 6 gauge. Should i even consider upgrading it since it´s only 90A? And if so, what gauge wire should i use?

I read somewhere that it might heat up the alternator or something to have a larger wire than intended

Ohio Generators recommends no more than 4 ga.

for only 90 amps, I would prolly just replace the factory 6 with a better quality 6 wire.

if it is a stock alternator then there is NO REASON to upgrade the wiring.. it is already adequate for that alternator... the only reason people upgrade this wire is if you get a bigger aftermarket alternator and thus have more current to move

as for using too large of a wire and heating up alternator??? B.S. although there is no reason to go bigger wire than what is neccesary, but it will not overheat the alternator if you do go bigger..

Ok, thanks for your input. I´ll keep the wire as it is then.
