Well, i'm getting a lanzar 1200d to run to a S15l7, and i was wondering what i should get: a 2 farad cap, or a extra battery. This is for a daily driver with just a factory battery and alternator.

alright a cap will just draw the voltage from the front battery in an attemp to regulate voltage. So two caps will just regulate voltage alright but think about it if you have stuff alternator it will keep dropping voltage anyways and the caps will be a draw on the electrial system also trying to charge back up. Go with the extra battery because it has its own reserve time and it will beter regulate your voltage because of this reason also it can discharge like a cap because its a battery. = ) good luck = )

1. Caps VS Low Internal Resistance Batteries (eg. optima's)
Q - What are the pro's and cons of using each and overall what is the better choice.
Jeremy - Well this has been a long time running touchy subject among many car stereo "guru's"
But as an auto electric mechanic, shop owner, installer and salesman here is my opinion on the matter.
Why caps are advantageous....
1. They discharge and recharge very quickly allowing for greater stability in voltage.
2. They can fit where a battery cannot. And may offer some amount of help to the charging system.
3. They can make a shop and salesman allot of money because mark up is usually 100%
4. They will not vent hazardous gasses
Why caps are a disadvantage
1. They cannot store enough energy to keep up with the demands of the bass notes in today's music. Eg. rap. techno etc.
2. Once the small amount of energy in them has been depleted they only become a greater load on the electrical system, this also happens when the amplifier is drawing large amounts of current, making the matter even worse.
3. They are not by any means cost effective, they are expensive.
4. They do hurt SPL as they become discharged and a drain on the electrical system within the first few milli-seconds of the "burp" before the meter actually reads the SPL.
Why Low resistance Batteries are more advantageous than caps.
1. They are much more cost effective, as an optima is usually the same price as a cap but has much more benefits.
2. They are able to discharge and recharge quickly enough to offer the same voltage stabilizing characters as a cap.
3. They have many thousand times more reserve capacity than a cap allowing much more available power for your amplifier
4. Using two batteries in a large stereo setup is much easier on the vehicles alternator. This is due to how the regulator sense's voltage and regulates the output of the alternator. With two batteries there is half the voltage drop. Yet the same current is outputted.
5. In SPL applications more batteries can maintain a higher voltage during "burps" allowing more output power from and unregulated amplifier.
Disadvantages of installing batteries.
1. They are larger than caps taking up more room and adding more weight.
2. depending on the battery there is a chance of the battery venting gasses into the trunks. Therefore any non-sealed battery that is being installed in trunks should be properly vented to the outside of the vehicle.

Wow, well that pretty much decides that I should get another battery. At my job, one of my boss's has a wife that works at some kind of car battery factory. What kind of battery should i get?(not like brand but like specs....i think..)
