I was thinking of installing my alt myself. It seems like it fits almost perfectly into the factory location, my new alt is just built slightly different that my factory alt. But I've heard if the belt is even slightly off, I may be in trouble. i've never installed an alt before just to let you know. but if I can save myself $60-80 and not have to make an appointment at a shop thats booked for a week or so, ill go for it, as long as I know there isn't much of a chance of me damaging something.

have you done any engine work at all ie.. water pump, a/c compressor ...
Alts aren't usually that hard to change...and if all the mounting holes are in the same place as your factory alt then it should be no problem....
Good luck....

do you have the manual for your car (not the one it comes with, the big fat manual from a autoparts store) it will help, and you should be able to handle that connection. engine work is relativly easy if you know what your doing, have the right tools and the right parts. oh and a big friggin hammer. also a dremmel helps with stuborn bolts and ****.
drivin an 83 lebaron has it's perks. if it breaks, smash it off or cut it off.
On monday..i borrowed my ex's car to drive about two hours away to see my mom off at the airport... my car was running really really bad!
her alt goes out..taking the battery with it...
I had it towed to a pep boys...all there service guys had left.. fu** me... so i buy an alternator, a battery... ****..ex has no tools in the car... ALL the tools necessary to change everything ..and a flashlight (it's 8:30 pm now) ($350 dollars later as well!!!!)))
an hour or so later... new battery and alt put in by flashlight .. moment of truth ... YES... I'm back on my way home.. missed my mom at the airport though..
go for it !!!
