Car stereo speakers are usually 4 ohm. From tweeters to 6x9's to woofers. Now this is with the speaker at static, with nothing connected to it. Impedance is the actual resistance of the speaker while it is playing. This impedance is frequency dependant.

As far as wiring mids in parallel its going to depend on the amp. Some amps can handle the increased load and some can't. I don't like series wiring personally, so I don't recommend that as an alternative. Most amps can handle the 20hm load.

My first system in the BII was wired in series, but it didn't have a strong amp on the co-axials either (not a bad one, the Series 1 20x2 - just not beefy). When I upgraded to the Punch 40, I put them in parallel and could crank it to the point that my ears were ready to bleed (oh the joys of a heavy metal Guitar at 9 on the 10 point volume knob).

In other words, if the amp can take it, do it!!
