I had a post before discussing the best choice for front stage. I went to a local store armed with about $450 for a good set of separates (Canton and Boston Acoustics were my choices after suggestions and listening).
The store had JL's XR-525CS separates for $159 so I tried them and liked them. Sounded similar to MB minus the "screaming death" (That was coined by Uncle Ber ).
The separates are mounted in my floor pods.
Now I want to replace my midbass (MB Quart coaxes with only 60hz - 200hz being sent to them).
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

IDQ 62 or IDQ64 produce great midbass for a 6". The last car I put them in we had crossed over from 60-200 and they performed beautifully. Or some Illusion 8" would be pretty nice too.
Well.. Why not just stick with JL? They sell free air 8's, I believe, that will stuff in the doors moderately well.. The 6" driver from the top line is extremely high output as well.

Orion XTR MidBass drivers have always been solid. Also, if you're looking to step up to an 8 from a 6.5, take a look at CV StealthIII 8s and MTX 3K. I've heard both and have been rather impressed, especially for the cost. JL and RF are two top contenders, but you already knew that, but also take a look at Kicker Impulse - not too shabby for the price. Another low-buck alternative (other than Audiobahn and Crossfire) is Annhilator by Earthquake.
Hope this helps a bit

PS: Crutchfield has MTX, Kappa, and RF midbass drivers for sale.

I'm interested in the FNQ 6.5s. Would they be a good choice for midbass? I saw them in the list of good choices and I am able to find them a little easier in my area.
