I assume(hope) my Diamond Audio M5 component set has tweeter protection because at really high volumes the tweets cut out. They resume playing after the volume is lowered. My question is...Is it safe to keep playing them this loud? Sometimes they cut off several times during one 15min. drive to or from work. They are receiving 100 watts on each side from a RF800a4. Should I depend on the protection or be more careful and not turn them up as loud?
Thanks

The protection is something like a light bulb with a power rating at or near the power rating of the tweeter.. When the power input reaches that level, the wire actually heats up to the point where it starts dissipating the extra power... I see no reason why you "couldn't" keep running them, however, if your tweeter protection consistently comes on, you might need to consider doing something a little more "healthy" for your speakers.
1) Are you using them bi-amped with the passives on ONLY the tweeter? The passive crossover will supply the amp with a wierd and potentially unhealthy load.
2) If not, consider bi-amping them.. You can adjust the gains on the tweets, as they are a little more efficient than the mids.
3) If you REALLY need the extra output in the tweet range, bi-amp the speakers and add another set of tweeters onto the tweeter channel, and turn the gains down a little.
