I was thinking about pairing a Kicker Resolution mid with a FOCAL tweet, and X them over with my DEX-P1r. Would this sound like @$$? I like the resolution mid and god I love those FOCAL tweets not the real expensive one but I believe they were the ones above the entry line. Feeback is appreciated.

Yaup....I concur with Audiophyle. Whatever is going to make your ears happy = good for you . Companies will obviously want you to buy a packaged deal - mid/x-over/tweeter from them, but hey, if you like that set-up, then go for it dude!!!

Agreed Jimbo! I just built a set of theatre speakers for a pal of mine using a pair of 35.00 US Vifa's, and other than being a touch bright, damn do they sound good! Vifa also used to make a tanklike 5.25 that sold for about 55.00 us each, and they were the shiznit too!

And Madisound, and Zalytron..

There isn't much reason NOT to mix speakers, as obviously some speakers aren't perfect, so matching helps you make the best of all worlds...

Just do one thing- Match your speaker efficiencies, impedance and amplifier power BEFORE buying anything... (on paper) to save some tweaking headaches later.. if you can't, ah well, thats what gains are for.

I was just going to post a post like this...
perhaps you guys can help me out...i want to use Focal mids(i really like their sound), but i am not really sure what kind of tweeters to use...i didnt really like their new ceramic tweeters all that much. I really like the sound of nice silk tweets, but dont really know of any brands that i could purchase them seperately. What would you guys recommend to match up with those focal mids? Where can i get the mids and where can i get the tweeters that you recommend? Also, what should i do for a crossover? Just run off of a 4 channel amp and use an Electronic Crossover? Or try to build some sort of Passive crossover???
Any recommendations from anyone?
I would like to try to keep equipment costs as low as possible
Anyways
Thanks
Grant

What about Diamnond Tweets or maybe Boston Tweets, and you will need an electronic xover to LP them, I would suggest an Audio Control 4&1, as for the focal Mids with Diamond tweets I believe would sound nice, I do believe they are silk.hope I've helped

u can get focal mids from any focal dealer. u just wanna get the 6kx for car audio. its the same mid they had in the Bora line. as for the tweets, last years from what I have heard so far are better than this years, but I have also heard that this years are better, they just need to be broken in. Some guy on RAC is selling last years best Focal tweets for $100/pr obo. If u wanted some other tweets, go try Dynaudio. Some of their stuff is real good.

Surf on over to Crutchfield.com or PartsExpress or MMXpress.com.

They all should have tweets that you can get separate from the mids and some include x-overs. Crutchfield offers Infinity Kappa EMIT tweeters, RF, Kenwood, Pioneer, etc. Not sure what the others offer off the top of my head.

Much luck!!!
