Im looking for info on the DEI neodymium component sets. I need the 6.5" set

basically, ive heard they sound great, i want to know how much power they can take (i have about 150 per side going to mine now), how deep they are (must be no more than 2 inches or so) and what the tweeter is made of on them (please say silk..)

oh, yeah..... also, what can i expect to pay for a set of these, and who has some to sell??

150 will do nicely to them. As far as the tweets, they are silk. Mounting depth I'm not sure about. They are very nice sounding components, I just replaced mine but loved them. mmxpress has them for sale I know.

3065 mounting depth is right at 2.5", but the magnet OD is only 1-7/8" so it fits a lot of places where wider motor drivers wouldn't. The 5.25" is 2-1/8" deep. Also, the front flange is only about 1/4 thick in case you need to add a little bit of a mounting ring to help on the depth.

Dude,

Can you put a grommet/ring around the hole cut out for the tweeter? This would give you some extra depth, might not make the tweeter flush, but it should give you a few extra cm, maybe enough to mount them.

Sorry, but we wanted ours to deliver GOOD midbass, unlike the Uniplates ... that and not wanting the motor parked in front of the cone of a driver that has to play up to 5kHz cleanly dictated the rear mounted motor and sufficient depth to deliver decent cone excursion ... they are however incredibly light and with a magnet that's under 2" wide, a lot easier to fit unless you have a depth obstruction directly behind the center of the speaker ... can't do much for that I'm afraid except space forward ... the inverted magnet Illusion stuff is shallower, but also a lot more expensive, and as I mentioned, I'm not a big fan of having to develop smooth upper mid response with a big old return cup (neo motor) parked in front of the midrange cone.

nah, its not the tweeter thats giving me trouble.. i only have 2 inches of depth for my midbass woofer, and i cant space it out, because its behind the fact. grill, and it will push the speaker up against the door panel, and buzz like a mutha (been there done that)

daaaaangit... anyone have any ideas.. i could make a kick panel of sorts, if i could just get a piece of mdf, and mold the edges of it a bit with fiberglass or bondo.. man, i would like to leave it completley normal looking though..

My local dealer sold me a set of Neo 6.5 comps for $169...that is very low, usually i heard like $180.

I have them on a Mmats LM2075 (2x75) with the gains all the way down, and I cant turn it up past 30 of 35 withouth the Crossover light telling me the tweets are overloaded. I blew the old crossovers with 120 watts per side and gains halfway. I dont know how that guy is running 150 without probs.
But i must say, they are very loud and VERY clear with 75 watts. Probably the best speakers for the price.

Hey JD, ever give the Illusions a good listen? I'll be happy to demo my 8s for you.

Yes, I have ... but I was speaking of the 5.25" and 6.5" component systems, not the 8". Although my comments about acoustic shadow concerns from the front-mounted motor still apply. I should note that we also make an inverted neo 8", but ours is intended for use in a roughly 60-400Hz bandwidth as a pure midbass, not as the mid in a two way system requiring the mid to play flat up to 3K or better. They may avoid that problem by using a horn with the 8" and crossing it over lower, not sure ... thanks for the demo invite though, next time I get out your way I'll try and hook up :-)

Hey, no problem. Bring some of those DEI neos with you too, I have been wanting to hear some of them for a long time. I don't think that there is a DEI Audio dealer around here.

Done ... with the minimal weight of these things, dragging a pair or two around is no hardship ... but it sounds like we need to fix that local dealer shortage :-)
