Okay,

So my front staging is taken care of with the arrangement the kicks. I'm currently now running MB Quart 5.25 coaxes in the kicks (QM130.03KX). In the door is a MB RKC116 which I'm only using as a midbass.

Now comes time for the upgrade. I'd like to
replace the door speakers with an actual midbass driver. I'd also like to upgrade the
kick speakers if possible.

Since the kicks are nearly on-axis with the
listeners I need something which isn't nearly
as "beamy" as the MBs.

I realize that I'll have to listen and decide myself, but you guys have helped before.

Any suggestions? (Focal, Dynaudio, Canton, Macrom, Boston Acoustics, etc)

Listen to as many different brands as you can. Canton's seem to have a pretty big sweet spot, as do the a/d/s/.

Try CD Technologies, they claim to have a very food off axis response. At least that is the way they market their component sets.

Upgrading from Quart...cool .

Those brands that are listed above are excellent choices. I'd add: PG Zero Point, Orion XTR (HCCAs out yet?), Diamond/HEX, RF Fanatic Q, McIntosh, Morel, and maybe even Eclipse.

MTX Black Golds are supposed to be very nice, although I haven't heard them yet, heard the 4K a year or so ago and was fairly impressed for the $. Polk is not a bad choice either, not my style, but can't complain about their technology.

So far I've heard the Cantons (very nice) and
Dynaudio (nice but pricey).

I was very impressed with Boston's Pro Series.

I listened to JL's XR series and was surprised although they were not as composed as any of the above.

I'm trying to find a store in my area where I
can listen to the Fanatic Q series (it seems
RF subs and AMPs are everywhere). I did get
a listen to the Fanatic X series and liked the sound.

I'll keep you posted.

Boston Pros are nice (That's what I'm using), Diamond M5s or Hexs, CDTs...these are all nice sounding sets. Audition them first if you can.
