Ok, Dukk and audiophyle and any other that gave me input for mids and tweets. You all have valid points, but this afternoon i listened to my installer buddies Dynaudio's. They were to saythe least, NOT WORTH THE CASH!!!!. He then had some Cantons that he had before the Dyn's. He threw them in his pods (mainly cause i might have bought them) and i was impressed for the price he wanted!!! But i didn't buy them, we then went to the shop and listened to the Boston Pro .5's and DAMNNN!!!!! Sorry, but for $350, they sound amazing. Well, now that i have dissapointed you all, thanks for the valuable input. Though, all of you said it comes down to your own ear and that's my decision. Thanks

Yup, it all comes down to what makes you smile. Some like RF, others PG, others Canton, others Dynaudio, others Kappa, etc. As long as you are happy, that's all that matters.
I'm glad you found a set of comps that make you smile all day long . I'd still ask the board for future advice though , they have a LOT of exp to offer . Use that advice along with your knowledge and taste, and you'll have a sound system that makes others drool .

I'm glad you found what you liked! I hear some people even like the odd soft dome tweeter or plastic woofer. I do not.
Incidentally, do you feel that your installer friend is an obvious fool for buying the Dyns when the Cantons were better? Or were they just better for the money?
Lots of speakers are better than the Cantons. Few of them can be had for the price....

I have heard good examples of both soft and hard domes. The Canton is a great example of a great sounding hard dome! My personal choice is soft domes though. Dukk raises a good point. Do YOU feel that your installer friend ripped himself off by going with Dynaudio when the Cantons sound as good???? They are equal performers in my ears.

STILL waiting to hear a GOOD pair of HLCD's!!
Use your ears to judge components, NOT your wallet! K.I.S.S.

Well, Dukk and Audiophyle, i must admit that that is the only equipment that he bought for the car. So, he only has that money in it. Besides, he's an spl competitor and the Dyn's just showed he had $$$. If he wasn't sponsored then i would definitely take him for a fool, but he get's me good deals so i cannot complain.

I can understand that. People like to have status symbols. Have you dropped thos BAs in yet?? I got no dealers around me so I have never even heard them and am curious.

You won't be dissapointed in the Boston pros. They do ask for a lot of power. I'm using them right now and giving them about 150-170W continuous from a pc2600. They sound very nice, smooth and detail, and the tweets aren't "harsh" considering they are aluminum. very natural sounding set. And your install will determine the outcome, audition different mounting locations, and the xovers have jumpers so you can attenuate the sound, take your time, and you'll be happy.

In my opinion the Boston Pro's have horrible tweeters. If you like having a ice chisel stabbing at your ear drums then the Pro's are all for ya. But if you like your ears then I suggest staying away. Even if you set their x-overs to -3dB they still rip our head off. Remember this is all just my opinion. If you like hard dome tweet then good. There are some hard domes in certain setups like a horn configuration that hard domes actually sound good. Just trying to give my view to help others out.

The new Bostons aren't quite as harsh as you think.. they're really natural sounding.. I heard the demo bug and I was really impressed... I've also heard them in a sound room and they sounded excellent..
I like my MB Quarts. I just cut down the high frequencies and after like an hour of listening to them I do have a little listening fatique but I like the way they sound

Well.. i'm judging them by my ears.. I've heard them in car and out, and they're just a mite harsh for me... But hey, everybody has a different preference ;-)

I personally don't like Quarts or BA's. I agree with some previous posts as they are too harsh. And when you said you liked the bug, huh? Really? I hated it. It was the worst sounding vehicle I have ever heard that had Monolithic amps in it. Dyns are real nice as are the Canton's I have heard. Maybe the guy is a fool and doesn't know how to set up his stuff. I don't know, just saying. I have never heard either component to sound bad and maybe thats why you didn't like them. I have always given the same advice as everyone else has, and that is to listen for yourself. But also my added advice is, try and listen to as many cars and brands before you buy. Just because 1 set of something sounds bad, doesn't mean they all sound that way. X-over has a whole lot to do with it as does application and placement.
