I am currently selecting components for my car. I want to run a 5.25 in the front (for use of install) and 6.5 compnents in the rear. I have always liked Mb quarts line up. I am looking at the premium compnents. I currently have a Mb quart premium 302 dual 2 ohm voice coil sub that I will be running too. I am also looking at amps as well. I am trying to choose between the kicker zx700.5 or the ppi dcx 800.5. I will say sound quality is my top priority. Any input would be appreciated. The system is going in my 1987 Buick Grand National. Thanx Jason

You say SQ is most important.....Forget the rear! Concentrate all resources on a good front stage. Putting speakers in the back will detract from SQ because you won't have a good front stage. The rear speakers will pull your stage to the rear (BAD SQ).Instead of rear speakers go for the most clean power up front with the best components you can spring for. Install is just as important as equipment.I run a pair of QSD 216s up front and I've been very happy with them.I don't know if they're still the same-mine are a few years old now. Martin P.S. As far as amps go....If you're looking for SQ I'd recommend using a 4 channel or two 2 channel amps to run a pair of mids and a pair of tweets.Personally I'd also go all active if possible-meaning no external x-overs.There's lots of head units and/or processors out there that allow you to set and adjust x-overs within the head unit.If you go this route chances are you'll be able to use a lot more power than the drivers are rated for without SQ turning to sh_t.There are LOTS of people here that could help walk you through setting up a system this way. Don't be turned off when the salesman at your local store tells you all active is a bad way to go unless you're a pro that knows all about this stuff. It's actually real easy to get a basic understanding of it (if you don't already). Martin

Going active gives you some tuning flexibility. But if you are not 100% sure what you are doing, stay with the passives. You are much more likely to blow a driver being active than you are passive. Especially if you are not good at setting crossover points and slopes.
I'd personally spend the money on a really good front stage and skip the rear fill altogher. A really good two way set up front is better than a middle of the line front and rear stage. Something lik a Dynaudio 6 1/2 and tweeter up front with the proper deadening would be nice.

Thank you very much. The front stage makes sense. The other thing that I am trying to avoid is cutting up the car. Its to nice, and I want to keep it original in appearance. So the doors are 5.25. the only problem I for see is the depth. On the passenger side the way the window motor is postioned I have about 2.5-2.75 in tops. Also there is a 4 in mounted in the dash pointing towards the windshield. I was thinking of trying the tweeters in that location. My biggest thing is when you look inside the car I dont want any indication of a system. Would these locations work, and is a 5.25 going to give me enough midbass?? I do have 2 amps that I can use right now. Couple of sonys 100x2 and a 60x2. I am open to suggestions on components. Would the mb's give me the sound I am looking for? I have a pair of polk db 6x9's I can mount in the rear deck and just run off the head unit. Thank you again for the responses. I appreciate the input, and I am very open to suggestions.
I tried to link back, and I couldn't get it to work. So cut and paste, sorry! This is my car if you guys are interested in what you are helping me with. This is a Buick forum I am a member of.
