with an emphasis on very high sound quality but also very loud. what would be a better choice for the front stage in my daily driven 1995 Nissan 300zx?
Rainbow CS 265 P Vanadium -OR- Focal 165K2P
I'm going to run them off of a JL Audio 300/4
The rear fill will be a either Rainbow OR Focal coax running off a hidden PPi PCX-480
Any sugjestions?
also I don't plan on doing a box in the doors, but I will use ALOT of dynamat.
thanks guys, Tom D

I looked at the Dynaudio Esotec System 242 GT 6.5" components. I had heard that they really NEED to be instaled into a small ported box in the doors or kick.
I really don't want a crazy install in my daily driver, just good clean sound. so I need the component set with a woofer that will perform best free air.

If SQ/dB is most important why bother with the rear speakers? Personally I'd concentrate on a good install up front with plenty of clean power. Why not do a custom install in the front and forfeit the rear fill? I bet you could have a true SQL system for the same $ you're looking at by concentrating solely on the front stage.Maybe even do a 3-way up front.... Wait a minute....a 300ZX?! Why would you even look at rear speakers in this car if SQ is so important? My point is that to achieve a good sound stage(SQ)you don't want rear fill. It will only pull the stage back (bad for SQ). Just my opinion. Martin

In almost every car I have ever owned I have noticed much higher volume levels with a rear fill. But I have always liked the way my car shave sounded W/O a rear fill.
but the question still stands? I have heard the Focal 165K2P's in car before and really liked them. But I have only heard good things about Rainbow, but have no way to hear them before I buy.
I think I will give the Rainbow 2-ways a shot.

i heard k2's only on a board and they sounded pretty sweet. i just put profi's in my car and i'm very very happy with how they sound. i have a friend with geraniums and while having a really good bottom end, it does sound a little harsh at times. cant say i heard the vanadiums, but from what i'm told either you love em or hate em.

I would just run the front components, not sure which brand. and skip the rearfill. But then use the 300/4 and biamp the speakers...just toss the passive crossovers in a box in the garage.
