I'm thinking of going from 2way to a 3way front stage and am curious what your opinions are on midrange speakers... I've looked at a few on partsexpress and madisound and was intriqued by:

Dayton 5"
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=295-370
Aurum Cantus 5.25"
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=296-404
Dayton 2" Dome
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=285-020

I'm using Mpyre 6.5 mids and Seas tweeters http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=45_229_270_324&products_id=1591 atm... but also have other options open here. I have RE XXX 6.75 mids at my disposal as well as North D25 tweets and some vifa ones as well. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=264-555

I'm leaning towards the -edit- (Mpyre 6.5's), the Dayton Reference 5", with the Vifa tweeter crossed around 500 and 3k respectively with everything on Crossfire 150.2's
This would work well due mainly to everything being 4ohm and making it easy to fit with my amps.. though I have enough amps lying around to run a few bridged to the 8ohm versions I'm looking at.

My main goal is to sound good. I don't need amazing volume though I like to turn it up now and then; I don't have any plans to compete with the set up.

Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions? Flames? Feel free to speak up!

I'd sware those dayton's used to be advertised as having a copper shorting ring...but when VoiceCoil Magazine tested them, it appeared not to actually have one. Although the 7" does.
I actually own a pair of the 7" ones, and they sound pretty good. They got great reviews.

Alright, I have decided to go with the Dayton Reference Series; however, after looking at some of the frequency ranges the different drivers are effective through, I don't think the 5" version is going to quite be able to hit the range I want it to. Because of this possible short-cumming, I'm going to go with the 4 inch instead. I want it for midrange up to 4k -possibly 5k- and I think the 4 inch will fit this area better. I'll let the 6.5 play up to around 500 or 600.

Now to stop shopping at actually build some kicks and doorpods... lol.
