Her is the skinny I currenly own a set of used and tired I.D mini horns cd1e-v1. I want to upgrade the drivers to the version 3 because they are an actual 8 ohm piezo driver that run about 14db more efiicient at 1w/1m but they are $190. Her is the question has anybody used different drivers with any success? I want to keep about the same sound quality though. Or better than that can anybody give me a hookup on the I.D HORNS?

You can put any 1" driver on the horns you want to. The 1e v3 drivers are not piezo drivers, they are real compression drivers. If you are using the older passive XOs for the v1 or v2 1es, you will have to get rid of it. The B&C DE250 and 500s are great small 1" drivers...but are quite a bit more money. However, the difference in sound over what you have will be substantial. If you went with those drivers on the horn bodies you have, you would have to grind a small notch in the horn body to let the driver sit flush on the mounting pad.

Okay I got my terminology backwards they are compression drivers. But are you saying is that any 1" compression driver will work for me? You just prefer the b&c drivers better?

B&Cs are nice drivers. On those particular bodies, you will be limited to the smaller format neo 1" drivers. You will have to notch the body some for the driver to completely sit flush to the mounting flange. The DE250 and DE500s are both excellent drivers.

No, they will not fit any of the minihorn bodies. Plus they don't sound that good.

What kind of budget do you have?

I would like to be at about 100-120 because I can get the upgraded driver for like 180 shipped. What would you suggest?

yeah the pair of drivers. I mean I used to have a pair of usd entry level horns and they were just worls louder than these image dynamics. I mean I have a little extra money if that would get me something significantly nicer
