you don't use subs as midbass drivers. There are differences between an 8" subwoofer and an 8" woofer. Subwoofers generally have higher inductance, higher excursion and powerhandling...but reduced efficiency and higher impedance rise in the midbass range...making them less than ideal. Get a fuller range woofer, or dedicated midbass driver.

well its not gonna be used for full range, arounf 50-300hz ish, with a separate crossover for the high 250+ hz, mids 50-300 hz and then i've got my subs filling 0-80, would that work then?

Cliff Designs, I'd pass. Cheap but you get exactly what you pay for.
Most 8" subwoofers will work as midbass drivers.
Whether or not to use a 6 1/2 or 5 1/4" depends on what speakers you are talking about, your ability to install them in the right enclosure, the ability to power them properly, and your use of the proper processor to tune them correctly.
