returning noob! been a long time since ive posted but the car audio bug bit me again and im back in the game. Anyway, heres my scenario. I had focal utopia 3 ways that i bought 4 yrs ago or so and installed in my acura TL. I sold the car, took out the speakers and they sat in a garage for 4 yrs. I bought an infiniti G35, swore not to touch it, and of course, one yr later i did. I decided that i just wanted to do a two way setup instead. so i bought polykev xovers, and just used the midbass speakers. Heres the problem..when i took the speakers out of the box, i noticed alot of rust in and around the voice coil. when i had them installed, I hear a scratchy sound from only one speaker. So..what do you guys think? should I buy new midbasses, midranges, or scrap all together for something else? Thanks for your time!

Try contacting the manufacturer and see if you can send it in to be rebuilt. I would think they can. I need to contact AVI and have my midbasses rebuilt - a bit saggy after 14 years of jamming!!!

Yeah those are expensive mids. Sometimes all that you need is a new voice coil and your good to go.
