Just trying to figure out if the placement of the speakers in the pics will sound allright. I know that its not the best place but Im not willing to give up my dead pedal area in order to put them into the kicks. My other question is with the intension of running an alpine head unit, will the time allignment that they have be able to balance the sound off correctly so Im not overpowered by the drivers side of the front stage? I will also be running a pair of 8" mid-bass speakers in the doors once I get arround to customizing the door panels and all the speakers are going to be active.

By the way the comp. are mb quart 5 1/4's and they will be glassed onto the A-pillars. I wanted to put them farther away on the bottom of the a-pillar but they wont fit. Im also putting a pair in the rear behind the 1/4 windows above my subs

your a pillars are just way too small to do that, without re arranging the dash it is going to look like ASS. I would probably try a dome midrange and maybe put the tweeter in the plastic cover over your side mirrors...

That speaker will be so much closer to you than the pass side Alpine's time alignment won't help. That's the only side you will hear. If you aren't willing to give up the dead pedal, put them in a custom pod in the door or get a new car. Not to mention the kids you are going to run over with that big ass blind spot you will now have.

I was reading that thread on Carsound last night. I'm glad I could find it again. It is filled with a ton of info!!! You might want to consider kicks to equalize pathlenght differences....

If you were just concerned about one seat's imaging---you can do fine with dash mounted mids in that location. You can't do 2 seats.
The reason for him not to do that is:
1. It is dangerous. Look how much vision he is blocking. You can't see the front half of the truck in the first picture.
2. Airspace--he can't get the proper airspace in that location. So even if he got anything close to imaging right--his tonality would suck ass.
Here are some construction pics of my dash mounted mids:
The drivers in the pics are Audax drivers. I use them as test "fit" drivers so I don't mess up my Legatia speakers.
I received DAMN good imaging scores last weekend at a Regional event (perfect score in MECA for left and right from Keith Turner, Center image score was between 5 and 5.5 out of 6 from all 3 judges), and tonally my scores for the frequency ranges that those speakers play were also very good. Harry Kimura wrote "nice midrange" on my IASCA scoresheet.
So it can work--just not with a 5 1/4" speaker and not on a dash that small.

thanks for all the info. Im pretty much dead set now on puting the 5 1/4's in the doors along with the 8" mid-bass'. Ill try building the 8's into an enclosure and run the 5 1/4's free air with the tweets in the section behind my side mirrors along with either the other set of 5 1/4 comp in the rear or a pair of 6x9's

I'd reverse that. Run the 8's free air and put the 5 1/4" in an enclosure. You won't ever get a big enough enclosure for the 8's in a door. Trust me, I know the downside of a to small enclosure for 8's. I can show you the scores that prove it is a bad idea.

I was told that the mb quart 5 1/4s wouldnt sound good if they were in an encolsure because they would lose all bottom end? If they will sound good though then Id rather do that cause it would be easier.

You are using them as a midrang--you don't need a lot of bottom end from them. With the 8's in the door you will probably end up with something like 50hz to 250-300hz from the 8's and the 5 1/4's running from 300hz on up.
But no matter what--those 8's are not going to like to be in a small enclosure. You will end up with a very peaky driver that rolls off fast.
