system at the moment:
diamond audio m661 components (6.5")
powered by a planet audio TT2200
and an audiobahn 1805 sub (18") leaving soon
getting about 1500 watts RMS
6.5' ported box

anyway i'm ripping out the 18, and going for more sound quality at this point. i modified the front doors to fit the 6.5's but the back doors are still 5.25 which i hate.

is it a horrible idea to mount speakers on a rear deck? i remember hearing that this was bad for the sound staging but i don't know of any other options.

just buy some pretty nice 5.25" speakers, not like you will really hear them anyways [Smile]

are you having to modify the deck?

and what is to hate about a 5.25?

I don't like rear fill so I'm asking questions to justify using it.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I set my ballance so I hear both the fronts and the rears. I try too match the speakers too get the same sound quality.

The reason for not using the rear deck is that "sound quality" entails more than crisp highs and tight bass.

You are supposed to hear (on properly recorded material) the soundstage spread across and on top of your dash about where the windsheild meets it. You should be able to hear the singers voice, about the size of a cantelope (sp?) usually in the center of the dash, and be able to place all other instuments in like manner, they should all be focused, properly placed, dynamic and tonally accurate. Having speakers playing the same information behind you messes that all up.

So if you definition of sound quality is just crisp sound, you can add speakers to the rear deck, though a decent 5.25 set in the doors should do the trick and may be easier.

i like the sound coming mainly from the front too. once i get some nice comps up front i am thinking of taking my rearfills out. only reason i have it right now is cause my fronts can't keep up with the subs by itself.

also i bridged the rear channel so its mono. that makes it sound much better for me.
