They can sound good with work...I've heard a pair that sounded nice.

Loud as piss though...if you want volume, horns are it.

Focals get very loud, and sound good. You can find them pretty cheap on Ebay. I've heard the high end Bostons are super loud, but have had no experience.

The only way to loud is via displacement, either bigger speakers, or more of them, or higher efficiency etc.

There is no magic component set that is going to leave the competition in the dust on a level playing field.

If power is not the issue, you need to up the number of speakers, or raise the displacement capabilities of the current speaker in question ie go from a 6.5 to an 8, small format tweet to large, large format tweet to horns, etc.

American Bass now has 2 way components with crossovers. Crossovers are 12DB/octave, tweeters have tungsten element bulbs for tweeter protection. Mid bass response is impressive. They handle a ton of power and are clean, loud, and affordable. Contact bob@americanbassusa.com, tell him eric from team neo sent you. I took 2nd place in meca stock+ SQL running them straight off my headunit. The show was at national trail raceway.
