If you are using anything else, get rid of them now and get the 6500s
Now that we have that said, I'll continue on. To start it out, I'm going to discuss the cons of these speakers. They create way too freaking much midbass! With them sealed up in my kick pods, the amount of midbass/bass they cranked out was absolutely jaw dropping. I don't see how anyone could think they aren't putting out enough. It is overbearing! After tweaking the EQ a bit (80 was set to 24db/octave at the 7th level on the H/U), they really sounded great.
Starting out, I went with The Killers. In my S10, I was running some DD 6.5's (about twice the size of the 6500's). They always seemed to be lacking something. I'm not sure what it was, but it was lacking. The Killers sounded absolutely fantastic. I felt like all I had to do was reach out and I could grab the microphone it sounded so real. With the way I have them set it, to me, it seems like the imaging is dead on at eye/ear level. The kick drums in The Killers, and every other song were so pronounced compared to anything I've ever had, or to be honest, anything I've heard. You know it is good when your pant lags are moving with the beat. After The Killers I sampled some Deftones, Soilwork, Spineshank, Slipknot, and Crossfade. This type of music is generally all I listen to (haven't listened to mudvayne yet, just remembered them now) and they sounded better than I have ever heard them. I can't picture them sounding any better!
Just when I thought I was impressed enough, I had Casey grab a couple of her cd's to let her enjoy it. She grabbed some Anne Nasdfasedfijawef person and another CD by some guy (). I've never heard vocals so clearly pronounced before. If I woke up to that, I'd think I'd have sleptwalked into a recording studio in front of the microphone. It sounded like she was singing right in front of me. Not singing into a microphone and being replayed through some car speakers. Next was the CD by some guy. He played an acoustic guitar through most of the songs. I've always loved the sound of an acoustic guitar since I started playing them back when I was 8ish or whatever. It sounded so beautiful. Casey was ready to leave and I grabbed her and told her to stay put until the song was done . She usually doesn't notice a difference between one stereo or another, unless it has subwoofers. But she even said that she "heard more" in this than she has ever before. I agree, I've heard notes I've never known existed in songs before.
The system is setup with 6500's in fiberglassed kick pods which ended up aiming towards the dome light, but they probably cross about 4" in front of my face, centered in the vehicle. The tweeters are on the dash facing straight up sitting in the dash bolt hole areas. There were some plastic things covering the holes that I popped off and the tweeters dropped in perfectly. I am still able to position them the way I want to. The imaging is PERFECT when the tweets point straight up at the windshield and reflect off. Like I said, it is right at my eye level. If I angle them towards me, the stage drops to around my neck/chin.
Next thing I'm going to do is pick up a dashmat because I'm probably getting reflections up the wazoo Either way, I'm extremely pleased with the 6500's performance

the actuall midbass is a vifa driver, just a 4ohm version of that so if you wanted to find that driver.. i think it was on madisound.com... maybe they only had the 8 ohm version though, the tweeters are cdt, although, i thought they were a tad harsh for me even though they were silk domes, the midbass, true, was very punchy, but, in sealed kicks tended to have a resonance issue, even though the kicks were poly filled and sculpy clayed, but not a bad set overall especially for hte price
