can't go wrong for the $. they perform like a component set priced far above what they are. tweeter is bright enough to let it's presence be known, but not over powering or harsh.
they sound awesome, can take a lot of power, and stay clean doing it. mid bass is there, fast and tight. they really did their homework on these. vocals are sweet, plays the fine details of the instruments good also.

them and dynaudio have their difference in sound. i tested them in place of my dyn's and was amazed. all around, a $240 (retail) set of components knocking on the door an $800 set.

no SD page. i do have a couple pics on fullsizechevy.com.

http://www.fullsizechevy.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=10380&thumb=1

i put my tweets in the kicks. out of all the places i tried them, that worked the best for me, in my truck.

but every thing is out right now with new plans on the horizon. so i'll see if they don't go on the dash with 3's or back in the kicks again.

Do you think those crystals would take a solid 200+ watts rms a piece? I have an old vl-400 US Amp laying around that I have been wanting to use to drive some components. The amp is rated 200 x 2 @ 4 ohm stereo.

Gotta find something that will keep up. I've got 2 sets of Diamond M371i's in the doors off of a 50 watt rms x 4 channel amp, but they just don't quite keep up. So I guess it's time to start thinking about upgrading. Let the research begin.

JEREMIAH:

Seriously suggest you check out Rainbow (Soundlines in particular). Their awsome and my current first choice but unfortunately their outta stock where i am but you might have better luck getting them.

You can find tons of user opinions on them on the euroforums - www.talkaudio.co.uk. Those peeps just love em there [Smile]

Thanks for the tip topper. I will see if I can find them anywhere around here.

I was looking at the Diamond D971 component system. Anyone know anything about them? Thoughts. They look good.

it's been a while since i've heard diamonds. many people like them, and if that's their latest and greatest set i'm thinking of....it's bank.

the crystals will take a lot of power. me and a friend put a set in his truck, off his old autotek mx 1300 he used to run his subs with. 375 x 2 rms @ 4 ohms, class AB. and it is a beast of an amp (140 amps worth of fuses in it). anyway, dropped the xover down to about 70hz, and was able to throttle up the gain about 2/3 to 3/4. they got spankin' loud and stayed clean and good sounding. vs the coax's, the seperates mid has a longer voice coil and of course a more elaborate xover. like was said in the review, they perform like a speakers costing way more. and the auro NRT motor, one of the designers of that motor is owner of crystal, that's how it came to be in the line up.

rainbow's,.... i heard a couple sets and they didn't impress me. not that they were bad, they just didn't live up to the hype and the sound wasn't worth the price. one was about a $500 set, the other $800 i think. as much as they were raved about, i was excited to listen to them. i was let down from the demo cars i heard for myself. but that's my opinion.

Yo bro sounds like they can really take a lotta power but any idea how they perform with like 100w x 2 on em? could they still deliver the goods? or would i be better off with another set of less power hungry seps?

they're not power hungry (inefficient), they'll just take a lot of power it you put it to them. they'll still do real good with 100 watts, 75 watts, etc..

ya i got 100 watts on mine, sounds good. I got a question tho..im thinking of going all out and getting top of the line comps from either Focal MB Quart or JL Audio. My question is has anyone played around with the brand new JL Audio comps

JL comps http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=3339

Focal comps http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=1168

MB Quart comps http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=1215

Let me know which one you guys would choose. Is the extra 100-150 dollars for the Focals worth it. My current Cyrstals are going to go in the back [Smile]

Thanks for all the comments peeps. Am really leanin on these seps now.

But any idea why the review mentioned that the midbass was merely 'adequate'? do y'all find it lacking? not much kick? can't keep up with subs? doesnt go all that low?

MANCINIMAN:

Dude, just outta curiosity, why ya lookin to replace your frontstage? which part of the Crystal's performance you unhappy with? (just wondering what i might be gettin inta)

dont get me wrong...im not unhappy with them at all, im just like that, i figure im going to replace the back ones, so why not get some very hi end speakers...put them up front and put the crystals in the back. I mean at the time i got the crystals i wasnt on a very high budget, but if you have a high budget go for more high end. No one said they Crystals were amazing, but they are good for the 170 dollars i payed. If you got the Crystals you would be more than happy tho. Im just a picky person with car audio [Smile]

yeah i guess ya cant really expect a 170 dollar set to match the sound of a 600+ dollar set.

But any thoughts on the midbass performance of your Crystal set though? cus the review raved on the midrange and the tweets but said that the midbass was merely 'adequate'?

ya, the midbass isnt all that great, but then again i have two RE SE 12's makin plenty or noise as well so i may not really notice. I know for a fact that you will like the Crystals. Everyone that gets in my car says its super loud, but for me it doesnt see "super loud" because im in it everyday. You wont go wrong with the Crystals.

don't move the set to the back. it will hurt more than it helps. and if your 2 SEs are as stout as you say they are then you won't hear much of the set anyways.

are you're doors sealed up? if not, you would experience a boost in midbass when you do.

good solid midbass comes with a price. usually a the price of a large driver (8 or greater), adequate space, and lots of power. i've never heard a boxed set that had great midbass only ones that had better compared to the others.

a comparatively priced set of components with strong mid bass is the dls r6a. anything you do is going to have trade offs. you'll be trading a little better vocal and instrument detail for more mid bass. not that the dls is bad with the vocals. the crystal is just a little better.

seal up and deaden your doors. try your crystals with out the subs on and see what you think of their mid bass then. it still won't be as strong as the dls, but it's not like they don't have any.

If midbass is of great concern you may want to consider a set of 3-ways. Put the midbass in the door and get the door deadened as best you can. Put the mids and tweets in sealed kick panels. Martin
