Hi, im new to the forum and have a couple questions. My wife just bought me a set of tweeters (MB Quart DTE-13) I hooked them up but they just don't seem very loud. I am sure they are hooked up right, to a 75x4 amp. My question is, do i have to use the crossovers tht came with them, or cn i use the hpf/crossover on my amp. Thanks alot. -------------------- Alpine cda9827 Front: MB Quart DTE-13 Tweets, Infinity 6.5's 6002i Rear: Infinity 9306i 6x9's AudioBahn a6004t Intake 4 channel 8 Guage Rockford Fosgate amp kit Hiwave 2.4 Farad cap Audiobahn a2300hct 2 channel JL 13w7 Rockford Fosgate 4 guage amp kit Optima Red Top

you would be wise to use the xover that came with them. my friend has the same tweets in his van and they get decent off the HU. plus using the xover it came with will keep them alive longer. erik -------------------- GO BIG, TUNE LOW! bolt everything down.

I have an alpine cda9827 headunit, with an audio a6004t intake(75x4 amp) with 2 6x9' infinity reference 9603i (100w rms) and 2 6.5 infinity 6002i (60 rms) i got some mb quart dte-13 tweeters (50 rms) im using them on the front channel with the 6.5s with the crossovers they came with. All the hpf and amp settings are good. Everything else is pretty loud but when i turn it up to my normal set loud level, they just don't seem to be very loud. -------------------- Alpine cda9827 Front: MB Quart DTE-13 Tweets, Infinity 6.5's 6002i Rear: Infinity 9306i 6x9's AudioBahn a6004t Intake 4 channel 8 Guage Rockford Fosgate amp kit Hiwave 2.4 Farad cap Audiobahn a2300hct 2 channel JL 13w7 Rockford Fosgate 4 guage amp kit Optima Red Top

"TEAM ANTI-Serg.M".....ROFLROFL Are you accepting applacations for your team? If you have crossovers on your amp you must be talking about bi-amping your 2ways, I.E. using 2 channels just for left and right tweeters. In that case the only real benefit would be being able to ajust the crossover point of your tweeters, and if your amp has gains for each channel / pair of channels, you could turn them up a little to make it match. Your tweeters came with passive crossovers...did you check for tweeter attenuaters on them? Some crossovers feature tweeter attenuaters in the form of jumpers on the circuit board, usually in -3db and / or -6db, for the people who find that their systems lack mids / midbass and they want to "turn down" their tweeters but do not have the equipment nessecary to bi-amp their speakers. Also, I am not 100% on this, but I think if you have no load on the woofer section of a passive crossover, the crossover point may be at something other than what it specifies because of not having a load on the woofer section. Passive crossovers that came with your tweeters wouldn't keep them alive longer unless your new crossover network was setup incorrectly, or if they had some sort of protection in the form of a fuse or circiut breaker inline with the speakers to protect against overpowering. Basically if you keep your crossover high enough and your power at rated unclipped levels you will be perfectly alright for however long you plan on keeping your speakers. A good place to start would be your old crossover point, it should specify in the manual. If it doesn't, try 3500hz. Don't go any lower than 1000hz unless you really know what you're doing, as some tweeters can quickly go up in smoke with even modest ammounts of power playing lower mid frequencies. Hope that helps, and let me know if I need to further clarify anything. -------------------- TEAM ANTI-Serg.M 2 12" SXs Concept 2400a 6.8cft CRX box @ 38hz Panasonic CQ-8300U Phoenix Gold Octane-R 5.0:4 Audax Aerogel 5 1/4" coaxials w/ 1" soft dome tweeters Audax Aerogel 6 1/2" coaxials w/ 10mm mylar dome tweeters

I don't know what the heck you are talking about. But if the speakers your wife bought you are components, and there is a crossover provided, why don't you use the crossover, and run the components off 2 channels, and the 6x9 off the other 2 channels? YOu need some sort of crossover on the tweeter, your HPF on the amp will dictate what frequencies get passed to the 6.5 and the tweeter, but w/out that crossover between the mid and tweeter, the tweeter will be trying to play full range as well. That crossover dictates where the mid will stop playing, and where the tweeter will start playing, which is very important. They won't last long otherwise.

Ahh, nevermind, I see, they aren't components. If you have the tweets hooked up to the same channels of the amp as the 6.5's, how are you HPF them at an appropriate level??

I don't know very much about car audio. are you saying that i need to hook the tweets to the the actual mid speaker? sorry im kinda new. my amp is 4 channels but i was glancing at the book lastnight, it said it could operate in a 6 channel mode, i was just wondering since they dont give rms for 6 channels only 4, how much power would each speaker get? -------------------- Alpine cda9827 Front: MB Quart DTE-13 Tweets, Infinity 6.5's 6002i Rear: Infinity 9306i 6x9's AudioBahn a6004t Intake 4 channel 8 Guage Rockford Fosgate amp kit Hiwave 2.4 Farad cap Audiobahn a2300hct 2 channel JL 13w7 Rockford Fosgate 4 guage amp kit Optima Red Top

It's a 4 channel amp. The "6" channels they were talking about are if you run 2 sets of 2 channels (2 speakers per channel).... Anyways, just use the crossover that came with the tweeters. Run it like this: CD Player -> 4ch Amp -> CROSSOVER -> Tweeters | -> Mids The crossover should have labels like Input (from amp), woofer (mid) and tweeter. Wire accordingly. As for your 6x9s, run them right to the amp, they are full range. Set your highpass on your amp on both channels for like 120hz. -------------------- TEAM ANTI-Serg.M 2 12" SXs Concept 2400a 6.8cft CRX box @ 38hz Panasonic CQ-8300U Phoenix Gold Octane-R 5.0:4 Audax Aerogel 5 1/4" coaxials w/ 1" soft dome tweeters Audax Aerogel 6 1/2" coaxials w/ 10mm mylar dome tweeters

Thats fine, its good to see someone admit it so they can learn. What that HPF on your amp does is selects where your amp will cut of the low frequencies, and let the Highs Pass (hence "high pass filter) so if you have that set to lets say 80hz for your midranges, you can't use those same channels for the tweeters w/out a crossover on them, or the tweeters will be getting that same 80hz and above signal. A tweeter only wants to play 2000hz or above, and many won't even go that low happily. So unless you have an option on some of your amp channels to set the HPF to 3000 hz you are going to need to use the crossovers that came with the tweeters. If you can't figure out how to hook up the crossover, any way you can post a pic or a link.
