I prefer the focal drivers over any of the bostons, we sell both. Bostons dont sound bad, but focals sound that much better.

Urh...that's not saying a whole lot. And if that is the case, I wouldn't want to have those Bostons.

Winslow, I've never heard a nice setup with ID equipment so I cannot vouch for them. One of our installers here however did compete in IASCA a few years ago and was pretty successful with Focal along with many other competitors using it. I've seen many of your posts and you seem very knowledgeable and I'd love to hear your setup at a show one day. Personal listening taste though I'd much rather the Focal K2P's or Utopia's over the Bostons.

they can take up to 400 watts, they are a very loud comp set but the tweeter can be very harsh at times.

Focal came and went in competition. There are always "hot" brands- Focal was for a couple years, then Quart, and now DLS. I've heard a couple decent Focal cars- Eric Fitzgerald's Accord was probably the nicest sounding Focal car I've heard, especially when he put the Audison amps in (I think they smoothed out the topend some). Now, those Focal 6s and 7s are pretty strong midbasses...midrange is so-so to me...and don't care for the tweeters...but subs and midbass are pretty nice.

i've heard focal and bostons on a board with with audison amps. remember it was a board so there is no way to predict what either would do in a car. the focal wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be-which I'll attribute to the board. and the boston wasn't as good as I thought it would be-which I'll attribute to the board. so how about that review? [Razz] not really sure how to do any tests from a board. i moved around alot to see how everything worked on/off axis etc, but that's about it. i listened to those sets, amongst a few others JL XR, Polk, etc for a few days while my truck was getting worked on. the longer I spent with each set, so fatigue, I couldn't stand the focal and the boston's won me over---between the two.

If you have some good EQ available in the end you will do fine with almost any good set. I like the Quartz Q-series alot. I do find the focals to have better midbass, but all things considered they are in the same vein. I don't think that I would ever go back to a reg comp set though...

I haven't heard a Boston set that I truly liked, they will take alot of power and get pretty loud, but if that is your goal, there are better choices around IMO. All the bostons I've heard are not very linear...

I like the Focal's better than anything I've personally heard before, although I haven't heard too many SQ cars, I'm a newbie to SQ and trying to learn. I never said focal was the best, just that I preferred the sound over the bostons, I want to learn more and I'm open to opinions, suggestions, and any tips or tricks any of you guys have to offer.
