i am thinking of purchasing these speakers, but there is a catch to purchasing them. the dealer that i am most likley going to purchase them from is pushing me to build kick panels. well this is not cheap and i don't really have the room to do them as i drive a manual transmission and the clutch pedal takes up me space! he really wants me to do the kicks but i am thinking that if i get some sort of a baffle in the doors, like a foam one that will give them and "enclosure" of sorts. i know a few people on this forum use these sooooooo can anyone help me?

JL,

If you can't do the kick-panels, due to the clutch, then the doors would be the next best thing. I feel your pain, automatic, but knees that make most NFL Lineman wince, so it's doors for me too.

XLC makes foam baffles that are desiged to keep moisture out. Not sure if they would count as an enclosure though. But, with mids and tweets, if you can keep the front wave separated from the back wave with a baffle, i.e. door, then it should sound ok. If you feel confident in cutting into your door, you could make a small enclosure to house the speaker set and set it inside the door (make sure that you have enough room for the window - rolleddown). I've been thinking of going that route with the s-10.

Much luck!!!

If you're being pressured into having kicks built by the same place that is selling the speakers even though they know that you have a manual tranny and the limitations, then I would perhaps reconsider buying from them. You should strongly reiterate the fact that you don't want to take up the space for them. If they persist, take your business elsewhere.

Good advice from TheWiz. Trying to make the sale is one thing, going against your wishes is another.

id have to disagree.
the shop is just trying to get you the best sound for your new speakers. sealed and properly angled kicks will sound much better than doors. theyre just trying to help you out. and believe it or not, ounce you move that carpet out of the way and all the plastic molding and other crap from the kick area, you usually have anough room to make a decent kick, if not, you cant cut into the body and use the extra space to make an enclosure.
btw, i have a stick too, with kicks.

Good point, good sound is desired. But, I'd still not like to feel pressured into doing something by a sales person.

Perhaps, is there another sales rep and/or installer you could talk with there at the store? They may be able to present different ideas and not be ramming them down your throght (spelling?).

Not trying to start a flame war, just been there and done that. Not a fun exp., but you need to do what is going to sound best for you and what you can afford . btw, excellent counter-point KIG.
