I want to put in some tweeters to liven up the front stage in my blazer . How should I do this ? I have four speakers running on my amp now at 2ohm stereo , if I wire in these tweeters paralell what will the ohm rating be ? Less than 2ohms ? would it fry my amp ? Its a PPI A200 ... Or shuold I wire them up to the HU ?
Thanks Guys

I think you're getting right up on time to get a hearing aid :-)
I wouldn't take that a200 below 2 ohm as its distortion would become noticeable I believe.. You could wire them off the head unit, yes. Or you could add another amplifier and split some of the loads up.
Yes, adding another speaker will lower the impedance past 2 ohms. Perhaps at this point you might want to consider using horn drivers? They use a larger, more efficient element combined with horn loading to make a LOUD and efficient speaker that handles low(er) frequencies.. one problem, 3/4 of them sound like tin cans, but if you want your music loud, horns are a LOT LOT LOT easier.
Good luck ShadowStar

Jimbo- That is an interesting statement.. Could you explain the difference between a tweeter's impedance and a sub's impedance, assuming they are both rated for a 4 ohm load?
Thanks!

Call me mis-informed, but i thought a tweeter doesnt present an ohm load because of the low power tweeters require? If your already running 4 ohm mids and add in a set of tweeters the amp would see that as still a 4 ohm load. I maybe "mis-informed".

In your example, the speakers are not playing the same frequency, therefore they do not draw current at said same frequency.. Two tweeters (4 ohm) in parralel IS 2 ohm nominal to the amp.. See the post Reactivity vs. resistance in Amplifiers.

If the sub moves, use it. If the tweet's metal, lose it. If you car doesn't have Oz, I just can't excuse it.

Thanks ShadowStar, I was then mis-informed by several ppl. I also agree with you on the 1st response you made. If i was in BassinBlazers shoes i would keep the mids on that amp and run the tweeters off the head unit. That head unit will supply more then enough power for the tweeters. Just make sure the bass level on the head unit stays at negative -5 or however low it goes or use some sort of bass blocker.

Ok , I did it . I am running the tweeters and the plates and the 6x9's all in paralell and it is sounding awsome ! Though the amp does get pretty hot . I have jammed out for over four hours (I was on a trip driving up north) and didnt have any problems at all ... Thanks for your input guys ....

hey bassinblazer, glad to hear the good news. If the amp gets too hot you could aways run the tweeters off the head unit with bass blockers or a high pass x-over. By the way. "If it's too LOUD, YOU'RE too old." is on my trucks back window in red. Looks good on it too.

Also for hot amps (temperature, not stolen ), try using a fan or two. Heat is the enemy...but "fear is the little death" - sorry, Dune just popped into my head.
