I was thinking of putting my power 800a2 on my kicks. the average set of kicks
( tweeter and a 5 1/4" mid) i've seen so far has an rms of around 100w or so. would a power 800a2 be too much? is there a limit to the ammout of power that a passive crossover can handle?

I would say that a passive X-Over shouldn't be hurt with about 150 watts going through it. I'm sure the tweeters will be extremely loud with 100-150 watts of power though, but, im sure you can run 275 watts on a pair of mids and be fine, just be carefull on how you set the gains for the bass.

Well, you can put any amount of power to a set of mids. I just wouldnt use more then 200 watts for each driver and tweeter. Thats just something i wouldnt do myself. When i said that you should be ok with abut 150 watts going through the passive X-Over i was just being cautious on that comment. I found out yesterday that passive x-overs can handle a good amount of power.

Well, I'd suggest that you find the highest volume level that you find even remotely listenable, then match efficiency and power handling on speakers to attain that number without exceeding the factory specs by *too* much.. Horns might help ya, too, as they are super efficient and capable of VERY high output levels

Thanks ShadowStar. I completely forgot about horns, and i agree with finding the highest Effincintcy (spell check) you can, that will make the speaker sound like its getting 150 watts when its only getting 75 or so.

You're ears will be bleeding with that setup man. I've got 120w going to my components and it'll make your ears hurt after 15 seconds at full volume. 400w would make ya deaf in that time. But hey, it's your set of ears =) I'd be careful running a component set more than 3x it's max power, and make sure you're careful with the gains.

Ok, just imagine MB Quart 5 1/4" componets with 90 watts each. I love my mids and highs screamin at me but, thats just the way i like my sound, bright and clear. I'm just here to give advice, im not an expert. I just like to help and give out what knowledge i have. I sometimes suprise myself at what i know. Anyway, ill keep track of this post for a few more days.
